Max Goldin (Музыка пуримшпилей // Из истории еврейской музыки в России / сост. и отв. ред. Л. Гуральник. Санкт-Петербур, 2001. С. 37–67)  identified the source of Goldfaden’s song as a song from a purimshpil recorded by M. Beregovski in Inhulets in 1939 from P. Lundin, who had performed it in the 1880s. See the notation below. The lyrics of the purimshpil song indeed closely resemble Goldfaden’s Yiddish paraphrase; the general Purim context was, in all likelihood, the background for the Hebrew paraphrase by L. Kipnis: tsu dayn kroynshtot un tsu dayn heylikn yontev haynt / zaynen mir gekumen ale gute fraynt / yederer hot gebrakht in zayne hent / far dem kenig a prezent
