Editor's note: In SEFER HANIGGUNIM, Rabbi Samuel Zalmonoff describes the history of this niggun [...] Reb Zalman remembers one particular singing of this niggun vividly: My Rebbe, Rebb Yosef Yitzhak [of Lubavitch] once that we should sing that niggun during a farbrengen [gathering] in the upstairs dining room (where he often had his farbrengens). And so it happened that the person who was leading the singing began to speed it up - and I never saw the Rebbe get so tough as he did then - the Rebbe banged his fist on the table and said, "I won't have you spoil this for me... Who gave you the right to put your mind on the next note when when your'e still singing this one?" And so he took us back and we sang "The Beynoni" all over again, but this time with more soul
