Editor's note: This Niggun is one of the precious in this collection. It is reported to be a niggun of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi (1745-1812), the Alter Rebbe, founder of HaBad Hasidim, transmitted through the oral traditions of the now extinct lineages of HaBad-Niezhin and Kopusht. Today, only HaBad-Lubavitch is still existing, and this niggun is not among their standard collections. Of it, Reb Zalman says: I learn this niggun from Reb Barukh Merzel, who learned it from Reb Moshe Chekhoval, of blessed memory. They were my first mentors in HaBad Hasidim and they gave this over as a niggun of the Alter Rebbe, who loved that verse, "The Wisdom of a person gives light to the face" (Ecclesiastes 8:1). It came through the Kopushter line to Rav Avrohom Schneersohn, who was the father in law of my Rebbe, and Rab Tzirelsohn, the rabbi of Kishinev, to Reb Moshe, who received it from them. We would sing this when we got to serious niggunim, when we wanted to learn or mediate
