Zalman Schather-Shalomi's note: This niggun is often attributed to the Ba'al Shem Tov, but I don't believe it. However, it is also said that it was sung at the court of Shmelke [Horowitz] of Nikolsburg [1726-1778]. And since I first heard it in my junior high [Gumnasium] from a visiting music teacher who was Moravian, and since the niggun wasn't from Galicia, I figured it was from Nikolsburg in Moravia... It is a conclusion. You know. when you don't have musical notation, how do you remember a niggun? You give it a "filename". So I call it the Nikolsburg Niggun
