Distinct from the dances at the weddings or social gatherings, Hasidic dance was an integral part of their religious adherence toward seving God with joy. It was said thatt the Baal Shem Tov taught his followers not to inhibit themselves during prayers, but to move about, shake, rock from side to side, so that every part of their body was involved in serving God. A hopke is a fast merry dance

Singer's comments: This Koydenov nign was sung on the New Year - Rosh-hashone - between the prayers shakhris and musaf. We would gather in our Hasidim prayer house and sing and dance, to drive away the sadness
