A.Z. Idelsohn, eminent musicologist, credits this melody to the ''court'' of Sadagura [see his Thesaurus of Hebrew Oriental Melodies, vol. 10, song #73]. Each Hasidic ''court'' guarded its own store of nigunim very carefully, but borrowing went on whenever and wherever feasible

Singer's comments: This Koydenov nign was also one of my grandfather's melodies. About this tune, my father told me that when Rebe Shneyer-Zalmen of Lyady, the founder of the Lubavitch (Labavichi) ''court'' of Hasidim, sang it, his high-backed, hand-craved chair, upon which he sat, would rise with him gently and float about in the air
