Ilya Saitanov provides the following information: According to Chabadpedia the nign was composed by Yehuda Meir Shapiro (see the URL below); See also Leonid Utesov's 1932 release as Hop-so-smykom, the audiorecording attached; on this recording and other Russian versions, see the article by S. Neklyudov, under the 4th URL below; the CD Cântare De Nuntă Și De Petrecere / Wedding And Party Song mentions that the tune was performed in the 1950s at the Jewish parties of Moldova and Romania. On the nigun in the Yiddish songs Zingen a Lid iz a Mekhaye and Lomir Alemen Bagrisn see links 2 and 3 below (no. 13 there). The attribution to the Lubavitch and Slonim traditions follows the testimony given in the second link—the Yiddish Song of the Week website.
